Categories: Small Prints & Large Prints

Definition:          

Small Prints - The mount size is to be 8"x10" minimum up to 11"x14" maximum.

Maximum print size is 8”x12”, with shapes being no more than 96 square inches.  There is no minimum print size requirement, but the mount size must still be as specified above.

 

Large Prints - The mount size is to be a minimum of 8"x10" up to a maximum 16"x20", or up to 320 square inches for odd sizes. Maximum print size may be up to 16”x20” or 320 square inches for odd shapes, but smaller prints may be entered.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY: 

  1. The Open Print Salon is an individual competition but they must be a member of a NWCCC member club.
  2. The photograph must be the work of the entrant. Commercial prints are acceptable.
  3. An image may not be entered in more than one current years Salon orcompetition,
  4. Digitally manipulated photographs may be entered
  5. To encourage new images it is suggested that photos be taken with the last two years.
  6. Images must originate from a photograph taken by the entrant on film or digital. Vector elements are not allowed. Other graphic elements must be created by the maker in a photo editing software (Photoshop, Elements etc), but not in vector software such as InDesign.
  7. All prints must be on firm support so they will stand erect. Masonite or other heavy mounting materials, frames or glass are not permitted.
  8. The print title, name of the club, and the makers name& print orientation must be on the back of the mount.
  9. The title on the back of the print must agree with the entry form and in the correct image orientation. Maker’s name or print title cannot appear on the front side. Print titles need to be unique for book keeping purposes. “Untitled” is acceptable if you use “Untitled #1”, “Untitled #2”, etc. It is also important a maker not reuse print titles.
  10. Monochrome and Color. Monochrome means “one color”. Globally applied tones, warm (brownish), cold (bluish), sepia, or any other color tone applied to a monochrome print are allowed.
  11. A maximum of 3 (three) color and 3 (three) monochrome prints may be entered with a maximum of 6 (six) prints total per photographer. The Color and Monochrome categories are divided into Large and Small size categories. A photographer must enter either the Large or Small size print category.
  12. If entries are mailed they must have the proper postage affixed to theAlso if prints are to be returned via mail the CORRECT return postage must be enclosed.  It is recommended that the entries sent by mail be adequately insured and have a tracking number.
  13. The NWCCC Print Directors are the ruling discretionary authority on the rules and their application.

JUDGING CRITERIA

 Judging criteria shall be based on the elements of Impact, Interest, Composition and Technical Quality

 Judges are selected from outside the NWCCC organization

 Small Prints & Large prints will be judged separately if entry numbers permit

AWARDS

 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and Honorable Mention awards for the Color and Monochrome categories

A Best of Show  is chosen from the combined Travelling and Open Print competition.

At the judge(s) discretion, Special Awards may also be awarded for select categories such as Portrait, Photojournalism, Nature, Creative, Landscape etc.

Awards will be announced and awarded at the Annual NWCCC Conference. 

SHOWINGS:

All prints will be displayed at the Annual NWCCC Conference.

Winning and Placing Prints will be digitally photographed and projected at the Annual NWCCC Conference.

They may also be show cased on the NWCCC web site

RETURN OF ENTRIES:

ALL PRINTS MUST BE PICKED UP IN PERSON AT THE CLOSE OF THE NWCCC CONFERENCE. (unless you have provided return postage). If you cannot pick them up yourself, please try to arrange for someone to pick up the prints. Your clubs Print Director will be responsible for coordinating pickup beyond the conference closing.

CONSENT & COPYRIGHT

The entrant must be the sole author of the copyright.  By entering your images into the competition, you grant NWCCC the right to use your images for promotions and /or posting on the NWCCC web site.  The photographer will be credited wherever possible.  The ownership will remain the photographers.

INDEMINITY

Neither NWCCC nor its volunteers shall be held responsible for failure of receipt, loss, or damage of any images, regardless of method of submission, entered into any competition.
